Biography
Christopher Columbus was first brought to this world around the dates of August 25th and October 31st 1452 in Genoa, Italy. His father is Domenico Columbo, a wool weaver. Christopher’s mother was Susanna Fontanarossa, a regular house wife who took cared both Columbus and his brothers, Bartolomeo, Giovanni, and Giacomo. Columbus never wrote in Italian, and apparently first sailed on a boat when he was 10. His family moved to Sovona in 1470, where in 1473 Christopher became an apprentice as a business agent for Centurione, Di negro, and Spinola Families. May 1476, Christopher took part in transporting large amounts of wealth in an armed convoy to Northern Europe, specifically in, Bristol, England.
While Christopher was in Libson in 1479, he met his brother Bartolomeo, while making some trade for the Centurione, he married Filipa Moniz Perestrelo. In 1479, Christopher son was born, Diego Columbus. 1482 to 1485 he traded for West Africa. Unfortunately, Christopher never came back to Libson, instead he went to Spain and found another wife, Beatriz Enriquez de Arana in 1487, not much was said about Filipa, either she died or whether Christopher left her.
Christopher saw many ideas of finding a new route to Asia, or the Inidies. Other routes were being occupied, either too full and occupied, or dangerous from pirates, weather, and busy towns. He presented his idea of going around, believing the world is not flat, and reach Asia. King of Portugal, rejected it, King of Genoa rejected it. Christopher was losing hope. His brother suggested other ideas until May 1, 1486, Christopher, while in Spain, presented his plan to Queen Isabella, Queen of Spain. She granted him permission.
August 3, 1492, Christopher set sailed for his journey to find his route, he started from Palos de la Frontera. Then in October 12, a crew member spotted land, he alerted Columbus who alerted the crew. Christopher finally saw an end to this, which now referred to as the Bahamas. Once he collected enough information of what he believed was the Indies, he went back and told the information to Isabella and Ferdinand. His discovery was known very quickly, became famous, and even now people make monuments for Columbus.
